In my job, I sometimes have to handle conflicts (not very often) and various accusations. Things I’ve learned are:
- Don’t draw any early conclusions
- There are at least two views of the conflict/accusation
- Things are usually more complex than what first meets the eye
So I’ve learned, I hope, to take it slow, let all involved describe their views of what have happened, try to learn as much as possible of what has happened. Ask for advice if I think it’s needed and then try to handle the situation.
Every time this happens, I know that I missed something and I could have done better. So, I try to learn from what has happened and to remember it for the next time.
The most important thing I’ve learned the last few years is that solving computer related problems are easy, while solving people related problems are hard
